STOIC LOGIC
A Clear Mind, Consistent Decisions
The first interpretation need not be the final judgement.
Written and prepared for publication by Mehmet Gökhan İnce
About the book
A message arrives. Before its words have settled, a judgement follows: that was cold. A delay becomes disrespect; one mistake becomes a whole account of failure. We decide what an event means before establishing what happened. Stoic Logic attends to that interval between an impression and our assent.
Pause–Examine–Assent offers a way to test a first interpretation rather than suppress it. Socratic questions, clear language, evidence, measurement and feedback help distinguish assumptions from grounds for belief. Considering the strongest version of an opposing view matters as much as defending our own. Emotion remains part of the examination.
In Mehmet Gökhan İnce’s account, logic is not a performance of winning arguments. Recognising where we might be mistaken brings ethical responsibility into speaking and deciding. The task is to compare confidence in our first explanation with the evidence it actually has.
