About the book

One evening, Sibyl Vane can no longer perform as Dorian expects. In love, she wants to speak as herself rather than through a character. He sees the loss of the actress he admired. At home, a new harshness appears in his portrait. His own face remains unchanged.

The canvas that bears the years and consequences of Dorian’s choices is moved upstairs, behind a locked door. Below, his beauty continues to open other doors. Lord Henry offers elegant explanations for living as he pleases; Basil, who has defended him, asks for the truth. Being admired is easier than allowing himself to be known.

This full-colour adaptation of Oscar Wilde sets the fear of losing beauty against the difficulty of seeing other people clearly. Dorian can hide the portrait. Renaming his actions cannot change what they do to others.
